Origin and properties of the ingredients
The Sonett detergent contains organic soap as the main active ingredient, which is made from various vegetable oils (organic rapeseed oil, organic sunflower oil, organic coconut oil and organic palm oil) by boiling with lye. Organic soap as a washing-active substance uniquely combines all of the dirt-wetting, dirt-dissolving and dirt-carrying properties necessary for the washing process.
Sugar surfactant: Sugar, starch and coconut oil are the raw materials for the sugar surfactant used. It supports the soap in its fat-dissolving power and ensures that the lime soap and dirt that forms in hard water are kept in suspension in a finely distributed manner.
The third active ingredient is organic panamarind. From the bark of the South American tree (Quillaja saponaria) a highly effective and colour-preserving anti-stain agent is obtained by means of an aqueous extract, which unfolds its cleaning power even at low temperatures. Soda is made by reacting lime with common salt. Silicates are formed by fusing quartz sand and soda. Due to their alkalinity, soda and silicates both strengthen the suds and promote the removal of greasy substances in particular.
Zeolite and citrate, the salt of citric acid, both bind the lime in the water and prevent deposits on the machine and textiles. Zeolite is made from the easily accessible raw materials water glass and sodium aluminate. Based on the principle of the ion exchanger, it intercepts the calcium and magnesium ions that cause water hardness and thus prepares soft water for washing. Citrate, obtained through the fermentation of sugary by-products such as molasses, binds limescale, especially at low temperatures.

Biodegradation
Soap made from vegetable oils has the outstanding feature compared to all other washing-active substances that immediately after use it combines with the lime that is always present in the waste water to form lime soap and thereby neutralizes its effect on living organisms (primary degradation). The lime soap is then 100% broken down by microorganisms into carbon dioxide and water (secondary breakdown). In the manufacturing process of sugar surfactants, parts of starch, sugar and fat are removed from the vegetable raw materials, but their natural structure is fully retained. It is therefore relatively easy for the microorganisms to 100% degrade these surfactants very quickly and completely. The remaining components of the detergent, soda, sodium bicarbonate, zeolite and silicates, are mineral substances that do not have to be broken down further in nature. According to the OECD, soap, sugar surfactants and citrate are considered to be easily biodegradable.
